Update July/August 2010

Geriatric1927

Well it is difficult to remember what has been happening since my last report but pleased to say that my life is good and pretty much as it has been for the last few years in that I enjoy my time here and on YouTube. I am very grateful to all of the friends that I have made over the years and have many of them in my contacts on Skype and speak with many all over the world from time to time which is a great joy.

I am always looking to find ways that will enable me to lead an independent life but find that as the years go by there are many jobs that I cannot do but I am fortunate to have a family living only a few miles away who are always there to help when needed. Two of the things that I have done recently is to but a new chair which hopefully will keep me comfortable and cosy. Recently I was taken to attend the Degree Ceremony for my first grandson who was awarded a Masters Degree in Motor Engineering, it was a wonderful event but his university was situated on and airfield and quite large, I found it very tiring and as a result have now bought a collapsing wheelchair that I can put in the car if any future events should arise. Hopefully someone will push me. I doubt that I will be  going on any airplanes any more but in the past have had wheelchair assistance which was of great benefit and therefore quite spoilt.

I am sad to report that another member of our Zimmers Band has died. Her family requested that as many of the Zimmers attended as possible and there was to be a celebration ceremony and it was hoped that they would sing some of the songs. I wasn't able to attend as the cremation and wake was in London as usual and I haven't yet heard all about it but of course when I do I will let you know. I will send an email to Dave.

Mike forwards to me any requests that I might get to do things by those who think that  I can support something and he would know more about it than I can remember.

Maybe he could do a blog here from time to time as I am sure that we are all interested in his life. For those of you who do not know he runs and pays for this site.

Of course I do always respond to those request and have done some videos for Age Concern and also the Race on Line campaign. YouTube had it's 5th anniversary recently and I was honoured to be asked to contribute. A film team were sent and we filmed for a day. They were two very nice young men and it was an enjoyable day, we filmed inside and outside. It happened to be a wonderful sunny day and I was able to show them some of the countryside here. Of course as usual only a small part of the film was used (one minute I think) and goodness knows what happens to the rest but that is the norm. YouTube also cooperated with a film maker who has the idea to do a film of the “Life in a Day” and all youtubers were ask to contribute, of course I did my little bit. I really doubt if it will come to pass but you never know. I have looked at many of the videos submitted and most seem to have not obeyed the rules in that they have captions and serious editing but we will see. A film company who are doing something for the BBC regarding the elderly and the Internet requested the submission of a video with the theme of my interest and benefits of computer and Internet use. So there is always something but I have no idea if any of this will be used anywhere but it does all add up to keeping me active and hopefully may be of use to others.

The guest book is a nice feature here and thank you to those who have written in it. I don't know if there is a way of replying to your letters on the site but those who have left their email addressed will know that I have replied to you, so keep them coming.

Until next time, thank you all for making my life so much better and fulfilled.
